About Pam

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 27 years experience in individual, family, and group psychotherapy and counseling, and was in private practice in Huntsville, Texas from 2009 through March 2022. My therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. I integrate complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client.  With compassion and understanding, I work with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.  I use an eclectic approach which includes Cognitive Behavior Therapy, REBT, Dialectical, Family Systems Theory, Solution-Focused, Client-Centered, and Strengths-Based.

I am also a Certified Bariatric Counseling Specialist treating Obesity, Anorexia, Bulemia, and Bariatric surgery candidates.  To be certified I completed 24 hours CEUs, including courses Obesity and Mental Health Implications (14 hours),  Eating Disorders (3 hours), and Eat to Live (7 hours). 

Licensure

I am licensed by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners #30569, and am bound by their Code of Conduct.

Employment

I have worked with Huntsville Memorial Hospital's Heritage Program for Senior Adults (an intensive outpatient Geri-psych program), Montgomery County Youth Services, the Tri-County MHMR crisis team, Amedysis Home Health, First Choice Hospice, and Gulf Coast Trades Center.  I have been an adjunct faculty at SHSU in the Criminal Justice Department.

Volunteer Work/Organizations

I have been a member of the National Association of Social Workers since 1995, and am listed in the Academy of Clinical Social Workers.  I ran Senior Focus networking meeting and participated in Huntsville Interagency.  I participate in Give an Hour, which provides free counseling for military and veterans and their families.  I am a field instructor for SHSU and UH. I was a CLASP Mentor through SHSU, and volunteered at SAAFE House.  I have had several volunteer and leadership positions in other organizations. 

Personal

I am married to James Johnson, who is retired from Windham School District, taught Guitar at SHSU, teaches guitar and ukulele at UTMB, and teaches privately.  We have three daughters and eight grandchildren.  I have lived in several Texas cities, including Huntsille for 28 years and I am currently living in Galveston.  I enjoy traveling, live entertainment, cooking, gardening, home improvement, and spending time with my family and friends.  My husband and I run a house concert series.
